Surge protection devices (SPDs) safeguard valuable and sensitive equipment in electrical systems, such as network devices, automated machinery, precision instruments, communications gear, and military equipment. SPDs protect integrated circuits (ICs) and software components from high-voltage surges typically caused by lightning strikes, line faults, or switching operations.

Why Surge Protection is Essential

During a lightning strike, the massive electric current can directly damage overhead power lines, tall structures, and other equipment it contacts directly. In addition, the high voltages and currents from a lightning strike induce damaging voltage spikes in connected low-voltage electrical systems. This can destroy sensitive electronics and harm people indoors. Installing appropriate low-voltage surge protection devices (SPDs) defends vulnerable equipment and residential power entry points.
